Rabindranath Tagore, one of the greatest poetry in history and the first
non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, wrote this beautiful
collection of poems Stray Birds. The mountains, the flowers, the birds, the
rivers are alive in his words. The words in the book not only contains the
beauty of the nature, but also writes about the harmonious relationship between
human and natural.
The book
includes 326 short poems in all. Each short poem show a vivid picture of the
mountains, the flowers, the birds, the rivers and the oceans in nature.
However, the poems not only describe the nature, but also speak highly of
friendship, the affection between family members and the love for life. The
aforementioned creatures in the book are alive and they are all looking forward
to a better life, and the sentences in the poems contain philosophy. Take the
following sentence for example, “Man is a born child, his power is the power of
growth,” though the sentence is short, every word is powerful and necessary.
And I was well inspired every time after I read the short poems.
Everything has its connection with others and all creatures are well
connected in a circle, and what connects them together is love. Throughout the
whole book of Stray Birds the author tends to convey a sense of devotion to
maintain the relationship with others, both physically and mentally. “The
trees, like the longings of the earth, stand atiptoe to peep at the heaven.” How
vigorous this picture is! In regards of the trees, I have to allude to the fact
that the earth provides water and nutrition with the trees, and these are the
essential elements of the growth of the trees. This quote is similar to human’s lives, as the
earth resembles our parents and the trees are in reality representing what
children are doing. We are raised up by our parents with their love and their
care, therefore, when we grow up, we find jobs in society and make
contributions to the development of the world just like the act of the trees
that showing themselves to the heaven.
In all,
Stray Birds is different from the books I read before, besides, the experience of
reading the story evokes the fantasy memories of me and I am inspired to stay
positive to look at the bright side of the life, sparing more effort to excel
myself, in order to pay back my parents.
